Why I'd Buy a Used Lamborghini Urus Instead of a Brand-New One

Why I'd Buy a Used Lamborghini Urus Instead of a Brand-New One

The Lamborghini Urus changed everything.

Before it arrived, Lamborghini was known for low-slung supercars that most people admired but few could realistically use every day. Then the Urus arrived and suddenly the impossible became practical.

A Lamborghini with five seats.
A Lamborghini you could drive every day.
A Lamborghini that could carry the kids to school before heading to a business meeting.

For many people, the Urus wasn't just another model. It was the car that transformed Lamborghini from an exotic sports car manufacturer into a global luxury brand.

The SUV That Saved Lamborghini

When the Urus was launched, some traditional Lamborghini fans questioned whether an SUV belonged in the range.

The answer came quickly.

Demand exploded across Europe, the Middle East, America and Asia. Buyers who had never considered owning a Lamborghini suddenly found themselves placing deposits.

Families, entrepreneurs, property investors and business owners all wanted one.

The Urus opened Lamborghini to an entirely new audience and has become one of the company's biggest commercial success stories.

The Best Part? You Don't Need a Brand-New One

Here's where I think many buyers make an expensive mistake.

The first-generation Urus still looks incredibly modern today.

Park an early model next to a much newer one and, unless you're a Lamborghini expert, most people couldn't tell you which cost twice as much.

That means you can often buy an earlier Urus for around Ā£120,000 while newer versions can cost Ā£250,000–£300,000 or even more before options.

Yet to the average person?

They're simply looking at a Lamborghini.

Let Someone Else Pay the Biggest Depreciation

Luxury cars often lose their biggest chunk of value in the first few years.

Why not let somebody else absorb that cost?

Instead of spending an extra £150,000 on a newer example that looks remarkably similar, consider putting that money to work elsewhere.

It could be invested into:

  • Property

  • Stocks and shares

  • Gold or silver

  • A business

  • Passive income investments

Your investments may grow while you're still driving one of the world's most desirable SUVs.

Customisation Takes It to Another Level

One of the reasons the Urus has become such an icon is the endless customisation available.

Companies such as Urban Automotive and Mansory have transformed the Urus into something even more dramatic.

Wide-body conversions, carbon fibre components, forged wheels and bespoke interiors can turn an already special SUV into something truly unique.

Some highly customised examples are valued well into six figures, with exceptional builds commanding significantly more.

Ā

The Everyday Supercar

Most supercars require compromise.

The Urus doesn't.

It can comfortably seat four or five adults.

There's room for luggage.

You can drive it every day in all weather conditions.

Yet press the accelerator and you're reminded this is still a Lamborghini.

It delivers supercar excitement with SUV practicality.

Ā

Finish It with a Personal Plate

One of the easiest ways to make a used Urus feel even more special is with a personalised registration.

Most people won't know whether your Urus is three years old or seven years old.

What they'll notice is the overall presence of the car—and a memorable registration often completes the look.

A great plate gives the car its own identity.

My View

If someone offered me the choice between a brand-new Urus and an immaculate earlier example with £150,000 left over to invest, I'd take the earlier car every time.

Cars are wonderful.

But money that works for you is even better.

Sometimes looking wealthy costs a fortune.

Looking smart while building wealth is a much better long-term strategy.
